This is not a multiday hut-to-hut hike, and – to be honest – the Rudolfshütte is a bit of a monstrosity. So why is this hut on our site? Because the surroundings of this hut are hard to beat. Tey are truly spectacular, and great hiking terrain! The hut is 2300 meters high up in the mountains, next to the beautiful Weißsee in Austria. Unlike traditional huts, Rudolfshütte offers more comfort and amenities, making it a bit of a beginners hut. We thought the hut itself was way too much; too flashy, too commercial, too many welness facilities. But you can’t beat the location it’s in.
Rudolfshütte is easily accessible via the Weißsee Gletscherbahn cable car from Enzingerboden (1480 m). From the top station, it’s just a short walk to the hut. For a more strenuous approach, several alpine trails lead to the hut from the valley below.
There are lots of great hiking opportunities directly from the hut. We used the Doppelsessellift Medelz (double chairlift) to go up the mountain en hiked back to the Weißsee, a great family hike. This chairlift will typically run from July to September, in good weather conditions.
